Volunteer Spotlight: The Resilience of the Human Spirit

Raphael House

Every aspect of life at Raphael House depends on the much-needed support of our volunteers. Our dedicated volunteers help Raphael House families experiencing homelessness in many ways, from helping children in our Tutoring Club to serving warm meals in our Residential Shelter kitchen.

This past week, our amazing kitchen volunteer Gwendolyn from Braze (pictured above at left) sent us this wonderful message after serving meals in our Residential Shelter.

“Watching the families come into the Raphael House dining room and share a family meal together deeply moved me. Seeing the families in various stages of acclimation—from the giggling girl with her curls in the highchair, to the visibly tired yet fully present mother with her three daughters talking about their day at school—really helped me to see the actual trauma these families have endured, as well as the resilience of the human spirit when basic needs are provided.”

We 💛 our amazing volunteers! Thank you for sharing the kind words, Gwendolyn. If you or your company want to get involved at Raphael House, click here to learn more or contact our Volunteer Manager Kellen at ksarver@raphaelhouse.org.
