Adopt-a-Family at Raphael House

Since 1989, Raphael House’s Adopt-a-Family Program has matched our generous community members with families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This annual tradition brings holiday warmth and joy to families in need.

While we have closed sign ups for providing gifts or gift cards for families this holiday season, you may still make a donation to Express Adopt-a-Family fund. This fund is used to supply families with any last minute gift needs, as well support our families and programs throughout the year.

There are three ways to participate in Adopt-a-Family this year:

1. Spread Joy with E-Gift Cards (Due Dec 1):

Give families the gift of choice this holiday season! E-gift cards alleviate the financial strain of the holidays and ensure parents and caregivers can still  select the perfect presents for their families. We kindly ask that you  provide e-gift cards via email, rather than physical gift cards, as they are the most efficient way of passing them along to families.

Note: The majority of families participating in Adopt-a-Family are in our Bridge program and reside across the Bay Area. To accommodate as many families as possible, we provide gift cards to these families, and physical gifts only to the families currently residing in our shelter.

2. Share the Holiday Spirit with Physical Gifts (Due Dec 8): We’ll pair you with a family in need and share their wish list. You purchase the gifts and drop them off with us unwrapped on December 6th. Note: physical gifts are limited to families in our shelter; all other families in our Bridge program will receive gift cards.

3. Express Fund Donation – Holiday Cheer Made Easy:While we have closed sign ups for providing gifts or gift cards for families this holiday season, you may still make a donation to Express Adopt-a-Family fund. This fund is used to supply families with any last minute gift needs, as well support our families and programs throughout the year.

How Adopt-A-Family Works

Getting involved with Adopt-A-Family at Raphael House is easy!

  • Step 1:  Sign up through one of the links above!
  • Step 2: We match you with a family and send you their wish list.
  • Step 3:  You buy the gift cards for families in need and email or deliver them to Raphael House staff by December 1st. Or, if matched with a family who wants physical gifts, deliver gifts to Raphael House on December 8th. Detailed instructions on how to deliver the gift cards or gifts will be provided in the email that matches you with a family.   • Step 4: Families receive their gift cards or gifts by mid-December and holiday cheer ensues!

Gift Drop-Off Dates

After signing up, more details on how to deliver gifts will be provided via email. The due date for gift cards is December 1st and the drop off day for physical gifts is December 8th. 

We strongly encourage donors to provide electronic (email) gift cards as they are the most secure and efficient way of passing your gift on to the families.

If you are unable to provide electronic gift cards and can only provide physical gift cards, please contact us at adoptafamily@raphaelhouse.org to coordinate delivery.
