We’re so happy to announce that our first-ever Read-for-Need fundraiser was a huge success! In this inaugural fundraiser, 19 dedicated student readers participated, surpassing our goal and raising over $2,500 for Raphael House families and our programs! Plus, many of those donations from new, first-time donors will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous match grant!

Our Read-For-Need fundraiser provides families with fun reading activities while supporting Raphael House, a homeless shelter for families in San Francisco. All pledges from our Read-For-Need fundraiser support our shelter and services for homeless families.
It's easy to join! Here's How It Works.
1. Sign Up Online
Register as a participant here [Note: Registration is now closed, you can sign up for our next fundraiser here.] or by emailing [email protected]. The deadline to sign up is Friday, April 24, 2020 (but you can join any time during our fundraiser)! Be sure to download and print your Reading Log, Sponsor Form, and Parent Guide.
2. Ask Your Friends & Family to Sponsor You
Get your friends and family excited and ask them to sponsor your reading efforts by filling out the Sponsor Form. Sponsors commit to donate 25¢, 50¢, or more for each page of a book or article read. They can also commit to a flat donation amount. We are challenging each reader to raise at least $100 from sponsorships. Sponsors can include grandparents, aunts/uncles, neighbors, Facebook friends, and even yourself! Download a sample letter for your sponsors.
3. Read, Read, & Read Some More!
Open up your favorite books or magazines and read as many as you can from Monday, April 27 to Friday, May 8th. Don’t forget to keep track of the pages you read in your Reading Log. They can be books of any type: fantasy, adventure, fiction, or nonfiction. Be sure to tag #RaphaelHouseSF if you post photos to social media or email them to [email protected]!
4. Celebrate Your Success & Collect Pledges
Once you’ve finished reading your books, thank your sponsors and let them know about your accomplishments so they can make their pledges. Pledges are due by Wednesday, May 20, 2020.
- Online Donations: Raphael House staff will send you a link to a customized online fundraising page that you can share with your sponsors!
- Checks: Make checks payable to: Raphael House of San Francisco. Checks can be mailed to: Raphael House, 1065 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94109. Please have sponsors put the reader’s name and “Read-for-Need” in the memo line.
