Organize a Read-For-Need Fundraiser!
Are you looking for ways to practice literacy skills with your children and support Bay Area families experiencing homelessness? If so, we invite you to join Raphael House’s Read-for-Need fundraiser!
Our Read-For-Need fundraiser provides the Raphael House community with fun reading activities while supporting Raphael House, a shelter for families experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. All pledges from our Read-For-Need fundraiser support Raphael House programs and operations that provide shelter and supportive services to families experiencing homelessness.

It's easy to join! Here's How It Works.
1. Sign Up Online
Register as a participant through a personalized giving page. You’ll also, at this stage, download and print your Reading Log, Sponsor Form, and Parent/Caregiver Guide.
2. Ask Your Friends & Family to Sponsor You
Get your friends and family excited and ask them to sponsor your reading efforts by filling out the Sponsor Form. Sponsors commit to donate 25¢, 50¢, or more for each page of a book or article read. They can also commit to a flat donation amount. Sponsors can include grandparents, aunts/uncles, neighbors, Facebook friends, and even yourself! Download a sample letter for your sponsors.
3. Read, Read, & Read Some More!
Open up your favorite books or magazines and read as many as you can within your dedicated time frame. Don’t forget to keep track of the pages you read in your Reading Log. They can be books of any type: fantasy, adventure, fiction, or nonfiction. Be sure to tag @RaphaelHouseSF if you post photos to social media or email them to our Marketing Specialist at glomanto@raphaelhouse.org!
4. Celebrate Your Success & Collect Pledges
Once you’ve finished reading your books, thank your sponsors and let them know about your reading accomplishments so they can make their pledges.
- Online Donations: Send your sponsors a link to our customized online fundraising page!
- Checks: Make checks payable to “Raphael House of San Francisco.” Checks can be mailed to: Raphael House, 1065 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94109. Please have sponsors put the reader’s name and “Read-for-Need” in the memo line.
Then, send your completed Reading Logs and Sponsor Forms to Raphael House. Here is a sample email template you can use to follow up with your sponsors and let them know how to make their donation.
