San Francisco, CA — February 12, 2019

Raphael House — the largest and only privately-funded family homeless shelter in San Francisco — appoints Marc Slater as its new Executive Director, effective January 28th, 2019.

Executive Director Marc Slater

Slater brings 15 years of fundraising, operational, and management experience with Bay Area nonprofits to his new role. He joined Raphael House as Director of Development in 2016, where he helped position the organization as a leader in the fight to end homelessness, moving more than 85 percent of families into stable housing. Slater served as the Interim Executive Director since November 2018.

“As Raphael House enters its 48th year, Marc’s extensive nonprofit experience will be pivotal in continuing our mission to break the cycle of poverty,” said Scott Olson, Chairman of the Board, Raphael House. “The Board of Directors believes that Marc’s dedication, passion and leadership will amplify our mission and take our work to the next phase.”

In addition to his experience at Raphael House, Slater also served as Director of Development for the Boy Scouts of America: Mt. Diablo Silverado Council, where he received the Western Region Rising Star award in 2015 for outstanding fundraising growth. He was also the Shelter Manager for the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society, where he increased animal adoption rates by 300% in five years.

Upon accepting the position, Slater added, “From the moment I walked through the doors of Raphael House, I knew this was a special place. There is so much in this world that is out of our control, but we know that where there are families who are homeless and hungry, Raphael House can help. It is more than a shelter. It is where our residents call home, and I look forward to building on the great foundation that has been developed over the past four decades.”
