I am delighted to share an important leadership update at Raphael House. Our Board Chair, Tom Poser, has graciously accepted our request to continue serving in this role for an additional two years. I am deeply grateful for his steady leadership and commitment.
We couldn’t be more appreciative to Tom for his steadfast support of Raphael House. Over the past two years, he has energetically led us through a pivotal time of transition, overseeing my recruitment as the new Executive Director, the sale of our Family Services building, and a marked shift in our development strategy to diversify our funding streams. Through it all, Tom has been a steady and thoughtful leader. To amplify the kind words of a key Raphael House supporter, ‘I wish every non-profit had a Tom Poser.’
Tom is a constant advocate for our client families and team at Raphael House, always vocal about what Raphael House means to him. He has written articles celebrating our successes on his personal blog, spoken about the importance of our work at our annual Gala, and ensures everyone he knows, also knows Raphael House. He regularly pulls together his community for a free networking event to bring the community together and share a Raphael House shoutout, for those who don’t know us yet.
The community has greatly benefited from the generosity Tom Poser leads his life with. For years, Tom coached his kids’ CYO basketball teams, stepping up and providing insight from his years of professional basketball experience. We know Tom’s big heart, and we’re so glad that he has chosen to continue as our Raphael House Board Chair.
“I am honored to continue as Board Chair during a time full of hope and promise for Raphael House. Over the years, I’ve seen the commitment of our board, the dedication of our leadership team, and the resilience of the families we serve. I believe this next stage will be one of the most meaningful yet, as we work together to create even more opportunities for our client families.” -Tom Poser
Tom’s continued leadership isn’t the only news to celebrate on our Raphael House Board.
We have a deeply dedicated board and executive committee. We’re excited to announce that Michele Lee will be joining the Executive Committee as our new Board Secretary after many years generously serving on our board of directors.
Michele Lee has been a pivotal team player while serving on our Board of Directors. Recently, this past Volunteer Appreciation Week, we shouted her out for going above and beyond the standard role. As we were applying for new city funding, Michele volunteered to speak on behalf of Raphael House and advocate for our organization—on her birthday, no less!
In addition, Michele has greatly expanded our network at Raphael House. She’s been of great assistance in making introductions to institutional funders, and Raphael House shines in every room where she advocates for us. There’s a reason that the San Francisco Business Times named her one of the most influential businesswomen in 2023, and it’s because she has proven time and time again that her voice is impactful and strong.
Thank you to our Executive Committee members who are continuing in their volunteer leadership roles at Raphael House. We are grateful to continue benefiting from the experience, leadership, and generosity of Heather Sager (Board Vice Chair), Charlie McEachron (Board Treasurer), and Karl Werwath (Finance Committee).
If you’d like to see our full Board of Directors, and our Executive Leadership Council as well, you can find more information right here, at raphaelhouse.org. If you are interested in deepening your commitment as a volunteer leader at Raphael House or learning about other ways to engage with us, please contact Mitchell Felton. We are always looking for help with gala, marketing, event hosts, and connecting us with supporters who are interested in our mission. We would love your support.
With appreciation,
Tina Burgelman
