November at Raphael House

As we enter the holiday season, Raphael House has been aflutter with excitement. We’ve had so many wonderful volunteer groups helping us with decorating, sorting clothing donations, and wrapping birthday gifts. Special thanks to the teams at Harvey AI LegalDodge & Cox, and Presidio Golf & Concordia Club!

And in the spirit of the season, gratitude has been commonplace. This month, a young father successfully moved out and left the following note for our staff:

“Staying at Raphael House was an amazing experience for my daughter and I. Living here, I saw my daughter smile more than she has ever smiled and that makes me happy. Thank you guys for giving us a home and much more. Much love for all.”

This year’s recent government shutdown was the longest federal shutdown in American history, and among the disruptions was a large delay and reduction in SNAP benefits for families facing food insecurity during the month of November.

Our community mobilized quickly, and a handful of generous donors raised $15,000 to establish a direct aid fund to provide one time emergency funds to affected Bridge Program families who have since moved out of Raphael House. We are so grateful for our community’s quick response and overwhelming desire to support families facing food insecurity.

From the Raphael House team, we want to say: THANK YOU! Your continuous support has made our mission possible. We’re grateful to have a community that values human dignity, and is dedicated to supporting families experiencing homelessness.
