When families leave Raphael House, they continue to have access to an array of services through our Bridge Program to help them maintain their housing and financial stability. One of our favorite traditions—which has been taking place since 2010—is Raphael House’s annual college tours trip for teens.
On the itinerary this year were colleges throughout Southern California, including UC Santa Barbara, University of Southern California, and Pomona College. Some of the teens on this year’s trip told us they had never seen a college campus before!
Aside from touring the beautiful campuses, the trip broadens the teens’ perspective by introducing them to different colleges and cities to make college an attainable goal for them. During the trip, tour guides also address the college application process, financial aid, and any other questions the teens may have.
This year’s participants also enjoyed stops at Universal Studios in Hollywood, as well as tours of the Santa Barbara mission, Venice Beach, and a detour through Solvang.
Teens who participate in our Saturday Teen Tutoring Club, and those who maintain good grades and active participation in our programs were eligible to attend the trip.
This year’s trip was made possible by a generous donor who values the importance of education. The participating teens appreciated the generous gift, which opened their eyes to the many educational possibilities that are available throughout California!
