Students in the SFUSD and Bay Area school districts will be returning to in-person learning this upcoming school year. Raphael House needs the support of our community to help our students start the school year prepared and confident!
Low-income families living paycheck-to-paycheck must prioritize essentials like rent, groceries, and health care expenses, and often struggle to purchase school supplies. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated those obstacles and the effects continue to be felt throughout our community. Raphael House’s annual Back-To-School Drive provides children with supplies to succeed in school and allows parents to focus on maintaining their financial stability.
This year, our goal is to provide 200 students with new backpacks and to raise $5,000 through our Back-to-School Fund! We know we can do it with your help!
Update: We’ve met our backpack donation goal, but you can still donate to our Back-to-School fund!
Other Ways to Support Our Drive
Donate Directly to Our Back to School Fund
Leave the Back-to-School shopping to us! Make an impact on Raphael House students by donating directly to our Back-to-School Fund. This fund enables Raphael House staff to purchase backpacks and other school supplies as needed, as well as support Raphael House’s programs and operations that provide shelter and supportive services to families experiencing homelessness. These services include preparing children for success during the school year through after-school and Saturday tutoring (currently, we are offering virtual tutoring) and extracurricular activities. Make a donation here.
Host a Drive as an Individual or Company
Our Back-to-School giveaway is only possible through the support of our generous community. Hosting your own backpack drive for Raphael House is a fun and easy way to get involved with our family or company! Coordinate a Backpack Drop Off
If you prefer to purchase backpacks from retail stores like Target or Costco, please coordinate your donation with Community Engagement Manager Kellen Sarver at [email protected]. Please note: All donated backpacks must be new, should not be solid red or blue due to some school regulations, should be sturdy enough for everyday use, and preferably contain plenty of pockets for additional storage.
