While residents and staff members participate in the daily chores of running our “household,” many community volunteers are also needed to ensure Raphael House runs smoothly. Diverse volunteers from the San Francisco community include teens, seniors, professionals, and former residents. In addition, a group of Orthodox Christian live-in volunteers participate in our three to nine month internship program, which draws people from all over the world. Volunteers assist in every aspect of Raphael House daily life, as well as helping with special projects.
Raphael House began as an entirely volunteer run organization for its first twenty years of operation. Although we have paid staff, we have continued a rich tradition of community and volunteer involvement in the daily functions of our home. Virtually every aspect of life at Raphael House involves the much needed support of volunteers. Beginning with preparing meals, tutoring in our AfterSchool Program, serving on various committees, as well as graciously serving as a member of the Board of Directors, Raphael House involves the community in every step of the lives of our families. Each year more than 2,000 Raphael House volunteers help us bring love and warmth to Bay Area families. If you would like to make a difference, there are many ways to get involved. Please complete the Volunteer Interest Form and we will contact you to discuss how you can become a part of our family.
