Kate Smith is a healthcare professional and community volunteer. She graduated from Indiana University and earned her nursing degree while also competing as a 4-year varsity swimmer. Her professional career began at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis where she served as a critical care nurse for 10 years. Following her tenure at RCH, she joined one of the nation’s leading facial plastic surgery hospitals as the senior nursing staff member, where she ran the recovery room, implemented NIH studies and co-published multiple scholarly articles. She most recently worked for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals as a senior sales representative. Since relocating to San Francisco in 2002, Kate has been involved in a wide variety of community initiatives. She is currently Chair of the Board of Directors of Raphael House, San Francisco’s first family homeless shelter. Kate also is on the board of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation and was the Chair of the SFMH Associates for three years. In addition, she is a supporter of Girl Ventures, the Academy of Sciences, the Indiana University Wellhouse Society and the University of Notre Dame. Kate and her husband, Ted, are the parents of two sons, and are actively involved in their boys’ schools. They also are the founders and proprietors of Montepharos, a boutique Napa Valley vineyard.
Cheryl has been active in many non-profits in San Francisco over the last ten years, including the San Francisco Ballet, the San Francisco Opera, Hamlin School and St. Luke's Preschool. In addition to chairing many large fundraisers, she has served in leadership roles on the various boards with which she has been involved. Cheryl lives in San Francisco with her husband, Ralph, and their two daughters.
Founder and President
Rick Dade is founder and president of R3 Builders, a Bay Area construction company whose clients include Trader Joe’s, Sonic Drive-In, Bin 38 Wine Bar, DOSA, Patxi’s Pizza and Pisco Latin Lounge. He founded R3 Builders in 2001 in Benicia, CA, and has since built it into a thriving business. Today, Rick and his family live in San Francisco, where he is passionate about supporting local business and merchants. Rick has contributed to many local charitable organizations, including City of Dreams, Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco, Raphael House, and Glide Memorial.
Karol K. Denniston
Partner, Schiff Hardin, LLP
Karol K. Denniston has provided bankruptcy analysis and counsel to clients for more than 20 years. Currently, her practice is focused on municipal restructurings, including neutral evaluation designed to eliminate the need for a Chapter 9 filing or make a Chapter 9 filing more efficient. Ms. Denniston played a key role in the drafting and passage of Assembly Bill 506 (AB 506), which requires municipalities in California to participate in a neutral evaluation process before filing for bankruptcy.
Chuck is President of Business Capital in San Francisco, a leading commercial financial services firm providing comprehensive, customized and strategic business solutions for clients across the United States. Business Capital offers a vast spectrum of services, including debt restructuring; asset based lending, asset protection, capital raising and business turnaround offerings. He is actively involved in the San Francisco community through serving on development and fundraising committees for various charities. He, his wife Jennifer and their four children split time between their homes in Mill Valley and Southport, Connecticut.
Christina’s professional career, split between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, spanned over a decade in marketing and public relations, both on the agency and on the client side. She has developed and executed public relations campaigns for large entertainment clients such as Pixar and Orion Pictures, as well as high-tech startups like CompareNet and OnRadio. Since then, she has co-chaired several events as a member of the Parents Association at the Cathedral School for Boys, and served for seven years on the Board of Children of Shelters, fundraising for shelters in the Bay Area that house children. She is also on the Board of the Walther Foundation, a family foundation which funds non-profits focused on issues with education and children in need. Christina lives in San Francisco with her husband Jad and two sons.
Lauren Eastman is the founder of Issima! PR, a San Francisco-based firm specializing in lifestyle, hospitality, food/wine and design. With more than 12 years of experience in public relations, she has executed campaigns for the Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force, along with an array of Fortune 500 companies and international governments. Lauren has been involved in numerous non-profits and charitable organizations including P.E.O., a philanthropic organization supporting higher educational goals for women, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and the Salvation Army. She graduated from American University in Washington DC in 2000, with a degree in International Communications and played on American’s DIV 1 Field Hockey team. In her spare time, she enjoys furthering her yoga studies and sharing her practice with others. Lauren is the co-chair of Raphael House's annual "One Home, Many Hearts" Gala and acts as a yoga instructor to Raphael House's youth programs.

Francisco (Frank) Gutierrez is Vice President of Business Applications at Genesys where he is responsible for development of a powerful portfolio of products and guiding all aspects of enterprise business applications. Prior to Genesys, he was at E*TRADE Financial and last served as Vice President of Web Development where he has implemented several Web 2.0 initiatives, including TaskBar, Trading Tickets, and Order History and Management. Mr. Gutierrez also spent eight years with Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., where he coordinated the development, design and implementation of back-end systems required to support the Schwab One and Schwab One Access products. Mr. Gutierrez holds a degree in Economics from the University of California, Davis, an MBA with an emphasis in Computer Science from the University of San Francisco and a Masters in Software Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Jessica is a Principal in Deloitte Consulting’s Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) practice, which is part of their Strategy & Operations (S&O) Consulting practice. She also serves as the Chief Marketing Officer for S&O. Within M&A, she leads the Customer, Markets and Products group, focusing on helping clients protect and leverage the customer and partner experiences to ensure that planned synergies are realized. She has over 15 years of professional experience, working primarily with clients in the Telecommunications, Media and Technology industries. Jessica lives in San Francisco with her husband, Eric, and their children, Zoe and Gregory, aged 7 and 9. When she’s not working, Jessica enjoys various family activities including running, skiing and hiking.

Greg has been in public accounting since 1983. He is the firm-wide leader of the real estate sector of the Construction & Real Estate Group of Moss Adams, LLP. Prior to joining Moss Adams, Greg was a partner with Kenneth Leventhal & Company and Ernst & Young LLP. Greg provides audit and advisory services to various clients including real estate core, value added and opportunistic funds, single- and multifamily homebuilders, residential and commercial land developers, hotel companies and general contractors, subcontractors, and specialty contractors. His other clients include real estate brokers, and residential, commercial, industrial and shopping center management companies. In addition to traditional accounting, Greg provides valuation, fair value reporting, and impairment analyses. He is also integral to strategic planning and equity capital strategies for his clients. Greg is on the firm’s Real Estate Steering Committee, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, the advisory board for the USC Lusk, Marshall School of Business Center for Real Estate, and the Urban Land Institute.
Jessica is the owner of Philanthropist, a high-end women’s clothing and accessories boutique in San Francisco that donates 100% of its profits to Bay Area charities. Since its inception in September 2008, Philanthropist has donated over $200,000 to organizations dedicated to fighting poverty. Prior to launching Philanthropist, Jessica graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and is a member of the California Bar Association. In addition to her commitment to Raphael House, Jessica is a strong supporter of the Humane Society of the United States, where she is a member of the National Council. Jessica served as a Co-Chair for Raphael House’s One Home, Many Hearts Galas in 2009 and 2010. Jessica, her husband Jason, and son Henry live in San Francisco.
Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Francisco Regional Office
Vice President of the Board of Directors
Kim is the Regional Counsel of the San Francisco Regional Office for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She manages the daily operations of the regional office staff. Prior to assuming a managing attorney role, Kim practiced as a government contracts attorney, successfully defending against multi-million dollar bid protest claims. Prior to joining the federal sector, she worked as a commercial litigation associate in a large firm, and also as a Deputy District Attorney. Kim is committed to fostering communities through outreach and education. She lives and works in San Francisco.
Scott H. Olson

Scott is a partner in the Bankruptcy, Workouts & Business Reorganization Practice Group of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and leads the firm’s West Coast bankruptcy practice. His practice includes business litigation, transactional and real estate matters. In particular, Scott is experienced in the field of distressed real estate, where he recently authored an article entitled “Buying and Selling a Commercial Loan in Default” for the Practicing Law Institute’s program on Commercial Real Estate Financing. He represents lenders, commercial landlords and receivers in real estate related matters. He serves on the board of the Northern California chapter of the Turnaround Management Association and joined the Raphael House Board of Directors in March of 2012.
Will is the CEO of a business advisory the firm Kempton Advisors, which provides consulting and M&A advisory services with a focus on the legal industry. He provides board level directional advice and advises shareholders during the complex process of disposing their interests.

Elaine has over 30 years experience in business planning, marketing, and public relations. She has worked with several companies and non-profit organizations in formulating strategic plans and working in collaboration with fellow staff and board members in accomplishing the goals set forth. She was instrumental in facilitating the completion of the Raphael House strategic plan and is eager to be a part of our growth as we move forward.
